How old were you when you started playing chess? According to Ashton Cook the younger you are the better. Ashton is a kindergarten student in Mrs. Lew’s PM class and placed fifth at the elementary state chess tournament on Saturday, March 15, 2014. He competed against 46 other kindergarten students from around the state. Congratulations Ashton!
Congratulations to Bryan Richards for placing first at the state PTA Reflections Contest. Bryan is a fifth grade student in Mrs. Curley's class and he composed an original musical piece titled, I'm Not Giving Up. We want to wish him the best of luck a nationals. Goooo Bryan!
Zach Hunter in Mrs. Elliott's sixth grade class wins a bike! Zach entered the Nebo District School Breakfast art contest and won. Congratulations Zach!
Whizzz! Zing! Smash! Excitement and interesting noises filled the gym as the Third Grade presented the Annual Invention Convention. Throughout December and January, Mr. Thurgood visited each third grade class during a science rotation and taught about simple machines. He focused on the wheel and axel, pulley, screw, wedge, inclined plane, and lever. The third graders and their parents took up the challenge to invent something that included a simple machine to solve a problem that they had noticed.

Students have enjoyed participating in the chess club here at Foothills Elementary. Mr. Thurgood does a great job teaching chess strategies.
Students in Mrs. Elliot’s sixth grade class are learning about our solar system. They had fun creating models of the solar system and they are on display in Mrs. Elliot's classroom.
Second grade students at Foothills Elementary are learning about the importance of good oral hygiene. They enjoyed a presentation, from a local orthodontic office, on how to take care of their teeth.
