It's a Penguin...It's a Desert...It's Antarctica!

What do ski planes, penguins, and deserts have in common? ANTARCTICA! After studying the article, Life On the Ice, in the their Journeys books, 3rd Grade students were privileged to learn about the finer points of actually living in Antarctica from Dr. Byron Adams. Dr. Adams recently returned from his annual scientific adventure in Antarctica where he studies the "wildlife" a.k.a. nematodes. Dr. Adams encouraged his enthusiastic audience to always be full of wonder, ask questions, and search for answers.

THE BUFF DON'T PUFF

Several athletes from BYU visited all the 4th grade students at Foothills Elementary. The BYU athletic program participates in a “Buff Don’t Puff” outreach program. The program is designed to educate and encourage students not to smoke. Students enjoyed listening to the athletes and participating in several activities.

Be the Magic!

Students at Foothills Elementary created “magic” by participating in several activities throughout the week. On Tuesday, January 20th, PTA volunteers spent 30 min. in the each classroom teaching a 30 minute lesson on gratitude. During this time students were given the opportunity to write thank you notes to their teachers.

Reading Buddies

Every Wednesday first-grade students enjoy reading with their fifth-grade "buddies." First-grade students frequently ask, "Are our buddies coming to read with us today?"
