Foothills Elementary students have their first ever Ballroom Dance Team thanks to Coach Angie Lowe. The students competed against other elementary schools at Timpanogos High on January 21. The two teams took Gold and Silver, and the trophies are almost as tall as the students.

As a school, we have been focusing on Being Happy. For Red Ribbon Week, the theme was to “Stay on Target and Be Happy.” Students and faculty participated in many activities to learn about safety, drug prevention, and character development. Sergeant Smith, from the Salem Police Department, visited Foothills Elementary during Red Ribbon Week. He brought his canine partner and they shared some training exercises with us. Sergeant Smith discussed the importance of being drug free. Thanks Sergeant Smith for your visit!

Angie Lowe is the ballroom coach at Foothills Elementary. Her objective is to teach far beyond the steps and music. The goal of the program at Foothills is to provide social dance instruction for children in a positive, friendly, and fun atmosphere. This type of instruction builds self-esteem and confidence. Through partnered ballroom dance movement, children learn mutual respect and social skills useful throughout their lives.

One student from each class was chosen to participate in a “snowball fight” with Mrs. Huntsman for a reading reward. We can’t tell who had more fun…the students or Mrs. Huntsman.
